Ken Hanlon

With over 30 years of experience, some may call me a veteran of the financial services industry.

I spent the first 20 years of my career working in large superannuation funds and funds management firms. I grew increasingly frustrated as I saw time and time again customers being offered complex products they didn’t fully understand or need. My dream was to establish a financial planning firm where the emphasis was on understanding all aspects of a client’s life, not just their assets and liabilities.

On the 1st April 1996 this dream became a reality and Sherrin Partners was established. ‘Sherrin’ is the family name of my father’s English grandmother. My father was named Sherrin Thomas Grant Hanlon.

In 2009 Sherrin Partners merged with Dunnottar Financial Solutions and my old colleague Jason Kirk and his business partner Nathan Yuille joined as Directors of Sherrin Partners. Jason and Nathan share my belief that financial planning should be simple, clear and highly personalised. It is important for our clients to feel safe and in control as we work towards achieving their goals.

In addition to making a positive difference in our clients’ lives, it is humbling to be able to help those less fortunate. I am deeply proud of the hands on work our team is involved in with a local charity called Footprints. Footprints provides support for people who are disadvantaged by disabilities, mental health issues, social and financial issues, many of whom are homeless.

It is also important that we give back to our industry and I am honoured to be a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA). I am a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) and have tertiary qualifications in Economics, Finance and Education from the University of Queensland.

I have been working in the Financial Services industry since 1995 initially within large banks, insurance firms and fund managers, including four years at Millenium3 Financial Services with Ken Hanlon (now a Director at Sherrin Partners). After becoming disillusioned by the short-term focus on selling products, I decided to move into financial planning where I could provide tangible long-term benefits to my clients’ financial lives. I established my own firm Dunnottar Financial Solutions in partnership with Nathan Yuille (now a Director at Sherrin Partners) in 2004.

In 2009 Dunnottar Financial Solutions merged with Sherrin Partners. Ken, Nathan and I share a similar philosophy and saw an opportunity to build a financial advice practice that provides a first class client experience. It was equally important that our practice survives and thrives the tenure of any one individual adviser. Our goal since day one is to make a positive difference in our clients’ lives and this is most successful when relationships are built and nurtured over the long-term.

I am particularly interested in working with clients to determine the most appropriate investment structure for their retirement savings, whether it’s a self-managed superannuation fund, company, trust, allocated pension or a retail super fund. I provide specialised advice in this area as part of a comprehensive financial plan incorporating wealth creation and retirement planning strategies.

I have Bachelor of Economics Degree and I am a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) through the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) of which I am a Member. I have also completed a Graduate Diploma in Applied Investment and Finance.

Helping our clients realise their financial and lifestyle goals and playing a part in developing our employees’ own careers is tremendously rewarding. Nathan Yuille

Every client is unique and spending time with them to fully understand their goals, priorities and concerns makes financial planning deeply rewarding for me.

I joined the financial services industry in 1999 and spent the first part of my career working for large banks including Deutsche Bank and Bankers Trust. I moved into financial planning in 2006 motivated by the opportunity to build long-term relationships with clients and provide more meaningful and personal financial advice. Initially I joined a partnership with Jason Kirk (now a Director at Sherrin Partners) at Dunnottar Financial Solutions and then in April 2009 we merged our practice with Ken to join Sherrin Partners.

Ken, Jason and I are united by the belief that financial planning should be highly personalised and always aligned with our clients’ unique values, goals and priorities. I am highly motivated by developing personalised strategic financial plans covering investment advice, wealth creation and retirement planning to help my clients achieve their goals. I also specialise in succession planning for businesses and business risk solutions.

I have a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Queensland (UQ), a Bachelor of Economics also at UQ and a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from FINSIA. I’m actively involved in the Association of Financial Planners (AFA) and a Justice of the Peace.

Most of my time out of work is spent having fun with my wife and four small children. I also really enjoy the mornings when I can get up early and join friends jogging along the Brisbane river or kayaking on the river before work.

My career in the financial services industry began in 1987 and I have been providing personal financial advice since 1996. Over this time I have acquired specialised knowledge in superannuation, investment strategies, retirement planning and optimising client’s assets for aged pensions entitlements.

After working for large organisations including NAB, AMP, Mercer and Prudential, I joined Sherrin Partners in October 2011. Sherrin Partners is an organisation where the client’s best interest is at the heart of everything we do. It is tremendously satisfying to convert my years of financial experience and knowledge into positive outcomes for my clients.

I am a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and a Justice of the Peace (Commissioner of Declarations). Similar to my colleagues at Sherrin Partners, I believe we have a responsibility to share our best practice with the wider financial services industry. I’m honoured to do this as a Fellow of both the Financial Services Institute of Australia (FINSIA) and the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF).

I am currently a panel member for the Financial Ombudsman Service which investigates complaints from consumers against financial services providers. I am also a past board member of the Financial Planning Association of Australia.

Outside of work I thoroughly enjoy gardening and maintaining an acreage conservation property.

I joined Sherrin Partners in early 2015 after several years living and working in London. I have a dual degree Bachelor of Laws and Business from the Queensland University of Technology and have completed my Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning.

Following my time overseas, I made the decision to enter the financial advisory sector and have taken full advantage of the wealth of experience and knowledge within the Sherrin Partners team to continue my professional development and expand my skill set with an industry-leading financial planning firm. I am focused on working with the individual needs of clients and providing personalised strategic advice to help them achieve their financial objectives. In simple terms, I enjoy working with people to help put them in a better financial position.

Outside of the office I keep myself busy playing Aussie rules football, the odd game of golf and exploring Brisbane’s newest cafes and restaurants.

After completing a Bachelor of Commerce Degree at Griffith University and a Diploma of Financial Services, I started in the financial advice industry as a Paraplanner with Medico Legal Insurance Group Pty Ltd (MLIG) in 2003. This role enabled me to develop a foundation and extensive understanding of the Financial Services industry.  I became an Adviser in 2004 and also an active member of the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA) including a short period as a board member on the AFA Genxt programme in 2009. In 2013 I achieved the Chartered Life Practitioner (CHLP) qualification through the Association of Financial Advisers and became a Senior Adviser and Director of MLIG. Following the merger of MLIG and Sherrin Partners, I became Director of Sherrin Partners and registered Tax Financial Planner.
Over the course of my career I have developed lasting key relationships with clients within the Legal and Medical professions.  I strive to educate clients on how they can achieve their financial goals and also how to protect their wealth creation and prepare for the unexpected.
Outside of the office I like to keep active by cycling and paddling my surf ski, I also like to spend time enjoying the outdoors with my family.

Having worked as a NHS Emergency Paramedic in the UK for 5 years I immigrated to Australia, joining MLIG and the financial services sector in 2007. Commencing in a General Insurance capacity I furthered my development with a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning) progressing to a Paraplanner role. I became an Adviser in 2009 joining the AFA in the same year. In 2013 I achieved the Chartered Life Practitioner (CHLP) qualification through the Association of Financial Advisers taking on the role as Senior Adviser and Director of MLIG.

With MLIG and Sherrin Partners merging we have brought together two client centric practices. I look forward to continuing my career helping young professionals balance their long-term financial goals with their day-to-day choices.

I am married with a young daughter and when I am not spending time with my family I am a sports fanatic watching rugby, football and enjoying the occasional round of golf.

Mark acts as Senior Consultant for Sherrin Partners (SP). In late September 2016, Mark’s firm Lauder Financial Solutions (LFS) merged into SP after 6 years as Managing Director and authorised representative at LFS.  Mark has over 9-years-experience in financial services, has a diploma of financial services, a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, and is a Commissioner for Declarations in Queensland. Prior to his work in financial services, Mark’s career focused on consulting services in Mainland China, based in Shanghai periodically from 1999 to 2006. Mark has completed formal language training in Mandarin at Brisbane Grammar School (1987-91), Griffith University (1993-94), and National Taiwan Normal University (1995). Mark is married to Ellissa, and has 3 children, Noah, Sofia & Zane.
